Changing Patterns:

A Somatic Exploration for Dance Teachers

July 11 – 17, 2021  Oro Valley, AZ

Dance teachers are givers… often putting the health and progress of their students before their own.  This past year has been extra challenging for students and teachers alike.  This dance teacher workshop/retreat is an opportunity to (safely) step back, breathe, relax, and do a deep dive into learning about your own musculoskeletal patterns and any corresponding stiffness or mobility imbalances that accompany them.

The primary goal of this intimate workshop is to become more somatically aware of our own patterns and come up with different game plans for addressing them.  This will be done through Feldenkrais-like movement explorations, mobility exercises, stretching, strengthening and integrating these new patterns. We’ll also have lots of great conversations around technique and how to encourage optimal performance.  Health is not a destination – it is a journey that happens from the small day to day decisions that we make and then act upon.  My goal is to give you information and new perspectives in order for you to explore and change patterns that will bring you closer to a healthier you.

Questionnaires will be sent out prior in  order to tailor the explorations to the participants.  I know there will be a lot of mutual knowledge and wisdom shared during the week!

This workshops will be very intimate.  Only 5 participants, (plus myself) for Arizona.

My goal is to both work individually with all the participants as well as having group classes and gatherings.  There will be time to relax – very important for integrating shifts in the nervous system and changes in neuromuscular patterning!

In order to gather as safely as possible I have reserved Airbnb’s where each participant will have their own bedroom and bathroom.  Hopefully many of us will have received the Covid vaccination prior.  I will be following the availability for at home and/or rapid testing.  I’m not yet certain of what specific measures will be taken just prior to the workshops to ensure the health and safety of all participants.  It is an ever changing situation – to have a very small group meet safely will the focus.

The majority of meals will be provided on site – we will also do some take-out from area restaurants for dinners.
